victoria fromkin：received her bachelor degree in economic from the univerity of california berkeley in 1944 and her m.a. and ph.d. in linguitic from the univerity of california lo angele in 1963 and 1965 repectively. he wa a member of the faculty of the ucla department of linguitic from 1966 until her death in 2000 and erved a it chair from 1972 to 1976. from 1979 to 1989 he erved a the ucla graduate dean and vice chancellor of graduate program. he wa a viiting profeor at the univeritie of tockholm cambridge and oxford. profeor fromkin erved a preident of the linguitic ociety of america in 1985 preident of the aociation of graduate chool in 1988 and chair of the board of governor of the academy of aphaia. he received the ucla ditinguihed teaching award and the profeional achievement award and erved a the u.. delegate and a member of the executive mittee of the international permanent mittee of linguitic (cipl). he wa an elected fellow of the american academy of art and cience the american aociation for the advancement of cience the new york academy of cience the american ychological ociety and the acoutical ociety of america and in 1996 wa elected to memberhip in the national academy of cience. he publihed more than one hundred book monograph and paper on topic concerned with phoic phonology tone language african language peech error proceing model aphaia and the brain/mind/language interfaceall reearch area in which he worked.robert rodman：received hi bachelor degree in mathematic from the univerity of california lo angele in 1961 a mater degree in mathematic in 1965 a mater degree in linguitic in 1971 and hi ph.d. in linguitic in 1973. he ha been on the facultie of the univerity of california at anta cruz the univerity of north carolina at chapel hill kyoto indutrial college in japan and north carolina tate univerity where he i currently a profeor of puter cience. hi reearch area are forenic linguitic and puter peech proceing. robert reide in raleigh north carolina with hi two recued greyhound gracie and helbyue.nina hyam：received her bachelor degree in journalim from boton univerity in 1973 and her m.a. and ph.d. degree in linguitic from the graduate center of the city univerity of new york in 1981 and 1983 repectively. he joined the faculty of the univerity of california lo angele in 1983 where he i currently a profeor of linguitic. her main area of reearch are hood language development and yntax. he i author of the book language acquiition and the theory of parameter (d. reidel publiher 1986) a miletone in language acquiition reearch. he ha alo publihed numerou article on the development of yntax morphology and emantic in ren. he ha been a viiting cholar at the univerity of utrecht and the univerity of leiden in the herland and ha given numerou lecture throughout europe and japan. nina live in lo angele with her pal pot a recued border collie mutt and hi olde englih bulldogge panion the ever oulful nellie.
