爱默生，Emerson.R.W.（1803-1882） was anAmerican essayist, philosopher, and poet, bestremembered for leading the Transcendentalistmovement of the mid igth century. He was seen as achampion of individualism and a prescient critic ofthe countervailing pressures of society.

 Emerson urged independent thinking and stressesdthat not alllife's answers are found in books. In hisThle American Scholar address to the Phi Beta KappaSociety at Cambridge in 1837 Emerson states that:"Books are the best ofthings,wellused; abused, among the worst." He believed that a scholar learns best byengaging life. Emerson's essays on The Conduct ofLife outline what one might do to engage life"skillfully."
