亚瑟·柯南·道尔1859年出生于苏格兰的爱丁堡。他学过医，并于1882年开始挂牌行医。刚开业的时候，来找这位年轻医生看病的人并不多。于是，在等待病人就诊的时问里，他开始尝试写点东西。
