本书还探讨了英雄史诗江格尔的形成和发展规律：首先分析了史诗产生的社会背景和文化前提，证
明了由传说到史诗、由零散诗篇到完整史诗、由小型史诗到中型史诗、又由中小型史诗飞跃而出现长篇史诗的全过程；其次论述了史诗江格尔形成后在流传过程中的发展与变异
