   主编丹·克鲁克香克（Den Cruickshank）和3名顾问、14名撰稿人共同编撰了本书的第20版，也是世纪版，对其中许多章节进行了改动和扩展，并增辑三分之一的篇幅，有关中东（包括以色列），东南亚、印度次大陆、东欧、拉美地区以及俄罗斯、中国（包括香港特别行政区）、日本、朝鲜等国的20世纪建筑的一些新章节。本书的内容广泛扩展，包括许多非欧洲国爱的建筑。20世纪以前的内容，目前有六章是关于伊斯兰建筑的。

  《弗莱彻建筑史》第一次把20世纪的建筑看作一个整体，从历史角度对其做出评价。书中还有许多关于建筑风格、工程结构以及新的平面图和剖面图。参考书自己被扩展为一个独立部分，汇集了世界建筑各个时期的重要信息。

【作者简介】

本书系1944年初版《西洋建筑史》的第一次再版。《西洋建筑史》由沈理源先生根据《比较建筑史》第10版西方建筑部分编译而成，是《比较建筑史》迄今为止的惟一中译本。《比较建筑史》自第18版起更名为《弗莱彻建筑史》，目前已印行至第20版。
