作者简介：
英国博物学家亨利沃尔特贝茨1825年出生在莱斯特一个纺织业主家庭。他并没受过高等教育，小学后一边当学徒工一边自学，自小热爱收集、研究昆虫。二十三岁时，贝茨受邀和动物学家华莱士一起前往南美的河流域进行科学察，为大英博物馆和胡克收集哺乳动物、鸟类。十年间不但收集了大量生物标本，还发现了具有毒的昆虫为保护自身安全而实施的拟态御，被称为“贝茨拟态”。
