- Type Image presents a collection of works that blur the divide between type and image. Using linguistic signs as the basis of pictorial constructions, these images have illustrated a shift towards non-linguistic uses of typed characters. These examples are distinct from what commonly defined as typography is. They are not simply decorated text. Here, the letterform is not considered only for its linguistic content (indeed, many of these images contain no distinct linguistic message). In these images, the letterform is seen as an artist's tool, selecting for its shape as often as for its meaning. Its form is presented as more important than its function.
