This amazing leather bound with gold lettering on the hard cover is not easy to compare to what else is on the market. I haven't managed to find a similar copy. This copy was part of 'The Chandos Poets' Series which was inaugurated by Frederick Warne (1825-1901) in 1868. According the National Dictionary of Biography (1912 Supplement), there were 154 volumes in the series and five million copies were sold.
It is not clear when this particular volume was published but on page 3 there is a name, message and a date June 5th 1881. The outside of the pages are gold on three sides. There is some foxing throughout the pages, but not very much. (just a handful of pages have more than a few spots) The outside of the book has many scuff and wear marks but the outside of the 600 pages are in pretty good shape.
