Norman“Bud”FortierwasborninNewHampshirein1922.InJanuary1942hejoinedtheArmyAirCorpsandbecameafighterpilotassignedtotheEighthAirForce’sfamed355thFighterGroup.Heflew113missionsandrosetosquadroncommand.Heisofficiallycreditedwith5.8aerialcombatvictoriesduringthewar.

AfterthewarFortiergraduatedfromtheUniversityofNewHampshireandwentontoflyforNorthwestOrientAirlines.Recalledtoactivedutyin1947fortheBerlinAirlift,heremainedintheairforce.Afterretiringfromtheairforcein1964asalieutenantcolonel,hebecameanelementaryschoolteacherandprincipal.
