Li Runbo is an outstanding collector of old newspapers and periodicals. The historical materials on sports he has collected cover a rich variety of activities over a long period. In the past ten years or so, he has written many books and articles. Particularly during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, he achieved remarkable results in sports publicity using his vast collection. In 2007, the magazines China Archives and Beijing Archives provided special for Li Runbo’s columns to introduce the history of China sports. He also staged a thematic exhibition of historical materials to welcome the Olympic Games in Beijing Municipal Party Committee Building and at 26 Olympic Squares. He wrote a 30,000-word article on sports history published in the Beijing Olympic Times jointly organized by Xinhua News Agency and Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG), and that article was reprinted in media in 48 cities around the country. Upon invitation, he gave lectures on the history of China sports in Beijing Sport University, Wuhan University and other institutions of higher education. That same year, he also wrote the book Records and Maps of a Century Chinese Sports, a project of the Chinese Overseas Publishing House. This book, with a rich text and pictures, is collected by many units such as the National Library of China, the Central Archives, Capital Library of China, Hebei Library, China Sports Museum, and the leading newspaper People\'s Daily.
Ten years has passed since those heady days. Now, we have invited Mr. Li Runbo to create another masterpiece Illustrated Handbook on China Sports in the Past More than 100 Years with an English version. Covering a wide range of sports and long time span, this book has been made possible by the author’s unremitting efforts. We hereby extend gratitude to him for his new contribution to study of the proud history of China sports.
