商品描述: Douglas James Fyffe RIBA - Original Early 20th Century Watercolour. Unsigned. On wove. Condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration.

Architect Douglas James Fyffe RIBA was born on 11 October 1899 in Dundee, where he was articled to Mills & Shepherd in 1919. He spent nine months of 1921 studying in Italy and in 1922 moved to London, entering the office of Gibson & Gordon. From the following year he studied at the Royal Academy Schools, where he was awarded the Landseer Medal in 1925. In the later year he joined Wimperis & Simpson as assistant, being taken into partnership in 1931, although his name was not included in the practice title which remained as Wimperis Simpson & Guthrie, Leonard Rome Guthrie having been made a partner in the year Fyffe joined the practice. He was still with the same firm when he was admitted LRIBA on 6 March 1939, his proposers being Edmund Walter Wimperis, Walter Symington Athol Gordon and William Begg Simpson. His nomination papers state that prior to that time he had undertaken further travels embracing France, Spain, Germany, Algiers, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. He died between July and September 1959 in Chelsea in London.

Part of a collection of watercolours to include UK and Spain, and architectural sketches of the area near Fyffe's London office, and later sketches for a memorial to George IV.
