From Library Journal Kentucky Bred evokes all the romance and drama of horse racing and race horsesKentucky style. From the Keeneland yearling sales to the dawn of Derby day the life of a Kentucky thoroughbred is re-created. White also emphasizes the role of horses in Kentucky's economy, the development of horse racing, the milieu of the breeding farms, and the special mystique of the Kentucky Derby. He minimizes but does not ignore the tragicfor the horsesside of the sport. Excess or nonproductive horses are destroyed, and injury and death are ever present. The horses themselves are a focal point of the book. Their beauty and grace add much to the glamour of the sport. The photography is stunning (particularly the color shots) and complements the text beautifully. Recommended. Susan Ebershoff-Coles, Indianapolis-Marion Cty.
