作者简介：
本杰明富兰林（benjaminfranklin，17061790）是美国启蒙运动的开创者、科学家、实业家和独立的人之一。他出生在波士顿一个小商人家庭。10岁前上过一年多小学，后来在父亲的商店里打杂。12岁开始在他哥哥经营的印刷所里当学徒。他白天工作，晚上刻苦自学。“时间比金钱更宝贵”是他的座右铭。他靠自学通晓多种外国语，大量阅读欧洲各国历史、哲学、文学等方面的著作。他对自然科学和政治经济学都有很深的研究。他的靠前部著作是他研究经济问题的成果。马思在说明价值和劳动关系时，借用过富兰林引用的一个例子，并且指出：“他是首先发现价值的真正实质的人中的一个。”富兰林成名之后在北美殖民地的传播和社会福利方面做了大量工作。他先后组织建立“共读社”“美洲哲学会”、印刷厂、图书馆、书店、医院、大学、报社等学术团体和机构。他对宾夕法尼亚市政的革新、谷物的生产、新式火炉的设计、电学的研究、避雷针的发明都有贡献。他逐渐成为北美殖民地中有影响的人物。
